This card came out of a $3 Dollar General Value Pack on clearance. I was just buying them to scratch the ripping itch during my work route. I deliver to a tiny town in Oklahoma that has basically one gas station, a school, and this one Dollar General. The last place I expected to find anything good.
But there they were — three value packs hanging on clearance for $3 each. Impulse control lost. I grabbed them.
The packs sat in the passenger seat screaming at me the whole drive home. When I finally got there and started ripping, card after card came out… until a black and white image appeared. Not only was it my first Black & White pull, it was a Corbin Carroll Rookie Card with the RC shield.
I was stunned.
I babied that card for months. I didn’t even want to sleeve it at first out of fear of damaging the edges. The centering was strong, corners looked sharp, and even the back (which is usually where Heritage cards die) looked clean. Eventually I decided it was worthy of submission.
It came back a Gem Mint 10 in the Tuxedo slab — currently one of only three known Tuxedo 10s.
From a $3 clearance value pack to a Tuxedo 10. This is easily one of the best collector stories I have.
